I haven’t written a house tour blog post for SO long but I’ve fallen hard for this delicious kitchen and thought it deserved more interweb space than I could give it on Instagram.
The kitchen belongs to a terraced 2-bedroom cottage in Fulham, West London and was created by visionary interior designer Zoe Stopford for a client who thought an entirely grey kitchen ‘might be nice’.
But Zoe didn’t believe an all-grey space would bring her client the joy she deserved and asked her to select an item that she loved, for inspiration. She turned up with a piece of fabric from Andrew Martin – which was mainly grey, but also included touches of pink and raspberry.
When Zoe returned with her plans for this pale pink and vibrant green kitchen, the client fell quickly in love, all thoughts of grey forgotten. And then it was only another small step to approve the zingy red stool. As Zoe says, “I think that's what designers are supposed to do: meet the client and feel their energy and give them something gorgeous that suits them. That's what we want from our wedding dress maker – or a fabulous outfit for a party – so I reckon you should have the same approach in your house.”
Funnily enough, Zoe’s suggestions that the kitchen incorporate a wine fridge and central island table perfect for sociable cooking that can easily be moved aside “for epic parties” were also met with enthusiasm. Such was the passion for this kitchen design it’s no wonder Zoe’s client got engaged just after the works were completed!
Kitchen details below:
Walls
Painted in Edward Bulmer's soft pink Cuisse de Nymph Emu 805. “Because of the difference in light levels in the house from front to back, I varied the pigments percentage in the paint throughout to give a consistent shade,” says Zoe. “The Edward Bulmer paints are brilliant because you can get 20%, 40%, 60% pigments which mean that the whole space looks the same colour - really important when trying to make a midget space look big!”
Kitchen cabinets
Zoe designed the kitchen cabinetry and had the joiners make and install them. The cupboards are painted in Little Greene's Jewel Beetle in Eggshell. “It’s a super, zingy colour which has a yellow undertone, just like the pink on the walls, so the colours work together well, especially under grey UK skies.”
Surfaces
The work surfaces, upstand and hob splashback are Caesar Stone's organic white.
Stool
From Wayfair, painted in Little Greene's Atomic Red. “It's a killer colour; the client nearly fell off her chair when I first suggested it at one of our early design meetings!” says Zoe. “I just turned up with the stool one day to show her how amazing the colours were together. In the end she loved it so much she bought the red clock to match!”
Tap
Perrin & Rowe aged brass Rowe Polaris 3in1 Instant Hot Tap Sink Mixer, Digital Tank and Filter.
The designer
Interior designer Zoe Stopford says, “We're hoping to set up a kitchen company this year to provide bespoke solutions but in a variety of finishes and materials, to suit all budgets. I want to give clients amazing choices on colour and help them make the very best of their space.” For more of Zoe’s work click here, and if you want to contact Zoe to discuss your project you can email her here.
